Tyondai Braxton, fuzzy haired frontman of melodic-math-mind-fuck collective Battles is getting ready to drop a new solo record later this year. The new studio-length goes by the title of Central Market and is due out on September 14th (15th in the US) on the Warp label, the same label Battles are signed to.
Battles is in the studio as we speak. Their newest album is in it's earliest stages as they begin to write and prod. I can imagine how long of a process this must take considering the unique blend of parts and layers these guys put on their songs. Everything revolves around the pounding drum styles of John Stanier. While in New York, we called him up to see what he was up to and he was around...
Last week I got word on myspace that Battles, Liars and fuck buttons were doing a pre show (for picthfork v's ATP festival at camber sands).I am so excited! should be an excellent show. ATP SiteGod bless those ATP folks.
MOG News recently reported about the upcoming Tonto EP from Brooklyn-based Battles. Today I found a remix that will appear on Tonto - it's "Leyendecker" featuring Joell Ortiz as remixed by DJ EMZ. You can listen to it, download it, whatever you want, from Nah Right blog. It's become a hip hop song now and it's very NYC-proud.Here is the recent video for "Tonto" in it's original Battles form:
OH! a relevant, punny title! How lame ABC! (slap on wrist). Now for the meat of the matter, or, the matter of the meat, this past week has been absurdly discombobulating a) with the election season on full steam and all sides taking potshots or arguing about 'who's the biggest celebrity' or 'who's going to raise/lower taxes, and obamania finding outlets (I even saw a cardboard cutout this weeke...

So we made it to Bonnaroo after a 16 hour drive from New Jersey. "We" being my friend Omar and me after three stops for gas guzzling almost $120 for a tank and a half and a pretty rotten experience with a Virginia Waffle House (My body rejected it after ten minutes) we rolled into the campgrounds at 1AM on Thursday morning. After sleeping haphazardly for 2-3 hours the festivities began. The first...
Battles nailed it on Jools' show on Friday night.Every season or so, he broadcasts one performance as good as this.Had the album ages, but had never seen them visually - and it clearly matters! This was the most astounding thing I've seen on the tellybox in ages!
Loving the new Battles album 'Mirrored'. Something a little different, but not too different, if you see what I mean. 'No, Helen, that's the worst description ever.'Hey, just trying to make the word count I think the music speaks for itself!Um, this one isn't even on the album. I tried to put that one up, but youtube was having none of it.

9 out of 10 StarsImagine you've gone to the theater to see a performance by a group of performance artists playing music that is indigenous to their country. Sure you've seen the children of Uganda, Tuvan throat singers, and Gamelan musicians from Indonesia, but this is special. These are a group of people that the bill says is from Metalstonia. You are anxious. When the curtain drops you a...
Despite my best efforts to dissuade her, Kez has posted my review of the new Battles album Mirrored on her webzine, TAXI!"Check it out here.":http://www.taximag.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=141&Itemid=39Since this is my first article of any nature published outside of MOG, I'd like some feedback on it. Please, keep differences of opinion aside when doing so; it's the form of ...
I'll do a concert review when I upload all the pictures. I am wiped out!!! Got home late and had to get up early to come into work. Maybe I should get a job where going to shows, writing reviews, and taking photos IS my job. How can that even be called work?I do have a question for all you moggers. What do you do for work? Occupation? This should be ridiculously interesting. And for the m...
