The Basement Jaxx
An experience from last week caused me to reflect on how I used to find out about new bands, back in the day. Fair warning: if you tire of my navel-gazing, click the Back button, or scroll along. No hard feelings. OK, where was I? Oh yeah ... I was taking Morgan and some of his friends to a work site, and was listening to a mix CD I had made, of my songs for the deaf. Morgan has long ago resigned himself to the fact that my tastes in music don't align with his, but his... MORE
I got the motivation to clean house this morning, and I figure I'd better take advantage of it. So, for a little house-cleaning music, nothing seemed to fit the bill better than some Remedy-era Basement Jaxx. The Jaxx have made some cool tunes since then, but these songs are where it's at for me. It was so fresh back then, and still gets my groove on. Here's "Rendez-Vous":
Still at work and things are dragging. 10 minute compile times give me a bit of surfing time; so, I headed here. My Mog time has been rather limited recently. Anayway, Joxley posted the vid for Start Wearing Purple earlier today. For some reason, Gogol Bordello always makes me think of this vid too. Just thought I'd share.
Yo!
Basement Jaxx are coming to Denmark this summer! We are so glad.
Take a listen. This is my band. DAMPFBAHN.
There is something to be said for the kind of woman who will describe one of her songs (Competition) like this: "This is a song about the time I f*ed your boyfriend." I fell in love with Martina from Dragonette when I heard that. That's my kind of woman! Dragonette is one of the better new new wave bands I've heard... and I have Duran Duran to thank for the introduction. I didn't actually get to see them live when they opened for my boys (I saw Stimulator at my show... ble... MORE
Holy God, what is wrong with me?! It has been two weeks since I have seen this concert and let tell you, impressive doesn't even begin to cut it. These guys put on, what I'm considering, the best concert I've seen all year. Campy and committed, tight and on point, this group put on a show that had all the necessary elements. A horn section in kilts, two gorillas and 6 singers later, the Basement Jaxx had left it all on the stage and had completely worked the crowd into... MORE
Not much to say today except I think the new Basement Jaxx video Take Me To Your House (think that's the name) is a cool video! I think the whole setting is really cool, plus I like the snowy bits. Not a bad song either! Quite like the chorus even though it sounds a bit different - wasn't where I was expecting the song to go anyway. It's a much better song than the other one they have out now, can't remember the name of it, but the chorus really grates on me!
This album has it's ups and down. Ups: Basement Jaxx seems to have been listening to their old material from the early 90's. This album contains many old-school house based tracks. Downs: This album lacks a scertain UMPH! that the last two albums, Rooty and Kiss Kash had. "Hush Boy" is cute. It reminds me of a few desaster dates I have had; he finnished my food and drank way too much. "Take Me Back To Your House" is a lovely house ditty and contains a banjo melo... MORE
