AMG Review of Moss Side Story
Richie Unterberger
All Music GuideBarry Adamson's first full-length album, Moss Side Story is still unequivocally his best. Elements of ock, voices from news reports, blood-curdling wordless female vocals (courtesy of experimental/punk diva Diamanda Galás), lounge keyboards, and swirling funereal ambient music are interwoven on this taut and compelling, almost continuous imaginary "soundtrack." The result is a sinister and edgy soundscape that's as gripping as any black-and-white thriller. [The CD adds three bonus cuts, including Adamson's updates of "The Man With the Golden Arm" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents."]
