About to pack up the laptop in preperation for pre-dawn trip to the airport to be off to Baton Rouge for what should be a nice 4th of July and a wedding. I really feel like I missed the boat on this one. This album came out in 2005 and they have a new one that came out yesterday. Balkan Beat Box has gotten a ton of press with many large publications. I'm at a loss as to how I missed this. Balkan Beat Box was formed in Brooklyn by Israeli born founders Ori Kaplan (Gogol Bordello) and Tamir Muskat (Firewater, Big Lazy). Good job, JDub Records. What an amazing night. The evening began with DeLeon, who really need to get their own for-real website. I’m not positive, but I believe these guys only play folk songs that are centuries old, but they play them with a very rocked-out twist. Their lyrics are mainly in Spanish, but sometimes the songs are about Hanukkah, so maybe they’re Spanish Jewish folk songs?

The U.S. Navy knows me really well. So well, in fact, that they just sent me a truly unbelievable offer. I can get 5 FREE MUSIC DOWNLOADS just for filling out a simple form at navy.com/action. Sept. 7th at the Empty Bottle is Golem and Balkan Beat Box. Looks like it's going to be a hell of a fun show. Kinda so-so on the available clips from the Golem website. Sounds good, but seems like the novelty might wear off quickly on a long set. Balkan is our main focus for going, and is rumored to put on a great live show.
