B.B. King Biography

The great Memphis guitarist and singer B.B. King has been the most high-profile figure in blues since the 1960s, ever since his LIVE AT THE REGAL album established him as a superstar. King has collaborated successfully with everyone from Bobby Bland to U2, but he made his name as a soulful, enthusiastic bandleader. His beloved cherry-red Gibson guitar, "Lucille," is the source of King's trademark sound--percussive attack, dramatic string-bending, and spare lead lines with a vocal-like quality.

B.B. King at the Palace Theater, New Haven, CT, February 4, 1990. What a fun show this was...for some reason seeing B.B. seemed like such a big deal at the time. New Haven's then-mayor, John Daniels, was in the audience and B.B. spoke to and referred to him throughout the show. Daniels is the only African-American (so far) to have been mayor of New Haven and B.B. made sure the audience new how important that was. I had seen B.B. two years earlier at the Palace and h... MORE

Blog post image preview On Saturday I officially started my Christmas preparations by buying an Elvis Christmas CD. I had done that 2 years and 3 years ago, but each time I ended up having to use them as a last minute gift for someone I'd forgotten about... this year I got a nice one, The Wonderful World of Christmas, and I prepared for those eventualities and ripped & burned it right away, so I'll have the music in any case... I also checked my other seasonal stuff... this here, I had to p... MORE

    A Concert Conundrum.

    3
So I've got a bit of conundrum, mostly because I'm an idiot and don't consult my calendar before buying concert tickets. A few weeks ago, I purchased tix to see BB King on Saturday, August 11 at 5:00pm. He's playing downtown in Baltimore at Pier 6. Today, not thinking, I also purchased tix to see Alison Krauss & Union Station on the same date, at 8:00pm. They're playing in Columbia, MD at Merriweather. So the question is...do I scalp the tickets to one show or t... MORE

so i'm starting to regret leaving my guitars at home and not bringing them to my dorm. playing about once a month when i go home is not enough for me. but then again, if i had them here i would always be violating the quiet code (not that i really care). more importantly though, i wouldn't do any schoolwork. i would just always play music. that i actually do care about, because i need to keep up my grades or else i lose my scholarship. and that's not really an option. ...
