Winter Part 1 - Aztec Camera

It's definitely winter and I'm beginning to think it's bothering me. Haven't had any of the weather that's been hitting a lot of places but there are promises that this will happen tomorrow. I went into my collection and sorted the tracks by "winter". I'm quite surprised how many cool songs there are that are inspired by or about winter. Any way since it is the season I figured I'd post some. Listening to these tunes has brightened my day. Hope you like them and are ... MORE

count me in and count me out

I've no reason to post this up here other than I was thinking about this song and good times from the past. KROQ used to play this stuff in the 80's, not Metallica. When I hear Metallica on their top whatever countdowns, i just get mad that they are rewriting their history. Unlike some people, I'm not about to pretend that I didn't listen to horrible music for parts of the 1980's.
Not that this song is bad. It's actually really good! You can thank me later, cause ... MORE

Pure Pop For 80's People

Blog post image preview I believe Aztec Camera was one of the most overlooked bands of the 80's. Elvis Costello once claimed Roddy Frame as the only songwriter that he felt threatened by. High praise indeed. Their first two records were pure pop bliss. The second record Knife was produced by Mark Knopfler. After that they tried to force their way into the mainstream and the next few records lacked the consistency of the first two. The 80's dance groove infiltrated their sound and they were neve... MORE

Oblivious . .Aztec Camera is, to all intents and purposes, Roddy Frame. However, a "band" did exist in the early 1980s, although even then the line-up changed several times in its first few years. The constant member has been guitarist / vocalist / singer-songwriter Frame. Founding members included Campbell Owens (bass) and Dave Mulholland (drums). Craig Gannon was a member from 1983 through 1984. Guitarist Malcolm Ross (formerly of Josef K and Orange Juice) joined ... MORE

Blog post image preview I first heard Aztec Camera when I was going to community "college" in fall 1983 (they call it community college because everyone in the community can go there, even f*ck ups like me). I was listening to a lot of harder new wave and rock music at the time, so it took me a little bit to warm up to their sound. The band was fronted by 19 year old Scotsman Roddy Frame, and I think their album "High Land, Hard Rain" is one of the strongest debuts of the entire decade, the recor... MORE
