--- - |- MP3: Atlas Sound - Balcony MP3: Atlas Sound - Canal Didn't really catch onto the whole Atlas Sound thing because I thought Deerhunter was rubbish. However, I really am digging their new stuff so I decided to give the whole thing a shot. Along comes this, "Amsterdam MIDI", a virtual 7 inch posted on the DH blog which I think is a great idea. It's pretty good, but cons...
So I just got back from Atlanta for Thanksgiving, where I meant to do this update, but as my parent's computer has none of my mp3s, that wasn't possible. I really thought ahead on that one......anyway, going home is a stranger and stranger task these days, as the city I grew up in is changing so rapidly that it's sometimes hard to recognize it. Within the past five years, Atlanta has grown ex...

Bradford Cox is on a roll. He just gave us the Halloween-ready "Coffin Trick " (Lilys bare bones Kinks Shadow Ring) a couple days ago, but he's already posted a pair of new songs -- "Maybe Logic" and "Airedales." They're tied together as the Maybe Logic Virtual 7" , so honor the format and try listening in order. The first, "Maybe Logic," is a dense 6-minute swirl of upbeat, teeming psyched...
It appears as though Bradford Cox is into sharing free music again, despite the Microcastle and Virtual 7" No. 4 leakage. (By the way, who can blame the guy for being pissed?) Today at the Deerhunter blog he posted "Coffin Trick," a brief Lilys-on-Kinks-on-Shadow Ring (wait until the dark, cold end part) song about singing to the coffin in your head and elsewhere. He's framed it as a Hallowee...

The concept is quite simple: a group of people listen to the same song and give their opinion as if they were in the same room listening to the radio at the same time. Stein said a bus is a bus is a bus, some said it was post-modernism, others said it was unreadable. Duchamp's The Fountain is called art by some, nonsense by others. Stein hit Duchamp in the nose and put it the wrong way up, Stei...
I have been impressed with the noisey instrumentation but soft production. Nothing spectacular, but there is a very intimate tension on the album that really appeals to me. The lyrics are accessible and adequately conflicted. It scores well.I am really more of a shoe glancer myself, but I think this may be full on gazey. Though I don't really know the elementals of the genre.
Atlas Sound's sole member Bradford Cox performed for La Blogotheque's Take Away Show series and it has not been making its usual buzz on the internet. I guess it's not interesting to make a video without going naked or getting a bunch of your buddies naked in it playing...

We at Cities of the Plain only have so much time on our hands and as such, we're recruiting a few of our music loving friends to provide some guest posts here and there. First up is our pal Jared, who recently started Playtonic Dialogues a sometimes music, sometimes philosophy blog and is living and working in New York City. Jared headed north this past weekend for All Tomorrow's Parties and ...
Atlas Sound’s new album Logos has leaked online, and it is getting amazing praise…like it should be. Bradford Cox, one of the finest indie musicians out there has done it again. Right away, the song Shelia stood out to me. It grabs you from the first second, and won’t let you go. It is perfect [...]

Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox has a side-project by the name of Atlas Sound and if you didn't know, they're rather good. Their upcoming long-player Logos is due in a few days (October 19th here in the UK and October 20th in the US) via 4AD but just before it's release, Cox has decided to offer a new, free bonus EP to those who purchase the record via the Rough Trade website.
