Last April I told you that Asobi Seksu signed to Polyvinyl and were starting work on their next LP. Well they're finally ready for us to hear a bit. They've given "Me & Mary" to Pitchfork to stream and it's great. Can't wait to hear the full product! Stream "Me & Mary" at Pitchfork
I actually didn't listen to much music while on vacation last week. I thought it would be kinda rude to slink away and slap on the headphones, and also not so nice to foist my music on my less-than-appreciative family, so the eighteen hours spent in the car were spent listening to the audio version of Harry Potter's latest exploits. Not a bad way to pass the time. Besides, I'm not completely su...
Here's one I've been really looking forward to for several years, not that I've known about this particular reworked collection for that long, but as a whole, I've been trying to get in on Asobi Seksu since being completely wowed by seeing them perform live. Rewolf is a small (ten songs) collection from Asobi Seksu's career. This may not be the best jumping on point, as the album does have sev...
After delivering quite the wonderful LP earlier this year in the form of 'Hush', Asobi Seksu have now confirmed details of another new release set to hit shelves before the year is out. Though it's not exactly an album of new material, it does sound pretty impressive, said to collate a collection of music taken from the bands three-album long career and rearrange them acoustically.
My live music withdrawl has kicked in full force tonight...must...see...show...now!So I think I will head down to our local, lovable rock club and check out asobi seksu tonight, I mean they were nice enough to come all they way from NYC...i kinda feel obligated!
NY band Asobi Seksu (rough translation: casual or playful sex) came west to rock The Independent in San Francisco. I was lucky enough to do the poster for the show. (result posted here).Asobi Seksu features some excellent musical work by all members of the band... they create a wall of sound with vocalist Yuki Chikudate's soaring vocals (in both English and Japanese) floating above in a perfec...
Asobi Seksu are often compared to My Bloody Valentine, but they've also proven that they do have their own special sound. That's partly why Polyvinyl has signed the band and are set to release the single "Me & Mary," both digitally and on 7-inch vinyl, on November 18. Now, to be blunt, Asobi Seksu's lead singer Yuki Chikudate is very attractive and Asian. We all know that white guys like Asian...
Here's the B-side of Asobi Seksu's latest single "Stay Awake", a cover of that famous track originally sung by The Crystals...done in an awesome shoegazey fashion...Delicious...& I'm just referring to the single cover so far...
I guess Pseudo Cyborg isn't dead, after all.On Friday my friend Josh pointed me in the direction of an Asobi Seksu Remix Contest. Immediately my mouth dropped and I got to downloading the available assets. Not only is this particular group a favorite of mine, "Thursday" is one of my favorite songs. Opportunities like this don't come often and I had made up my mind that I would finish the remix,...

Asobi Seksu(Blue Lamp, Sacramento CA, 11/21/06)My first reaction as I walk in at 9:30 is that Blue Lamp has stripped its interior down . . . a lot. Gone are the benches in the back, now it's one open brick-walled space that's been repainted in darker hues. It definitely looks better but the acoustics were already harsh before and they will be even more so now. I'm glad I brought ear plugs. Asob...

Although the rain fell on day two of the Northside Festival in Williamsburg the throngs that gathered along Bedford Avenue showed the signs of success of the event. With most of the What's on the Hi-Fi crew in town for the weekend, we decided to take in the Cymbals Eat Guitars and Asobi Seksu show at the Music Hall. Unfortunately, due to horrible sound conditions the bands were painful....Read ...
