On the Steve Goodman Memorial Concert Cd (alluded to in my previous post), Arlo Guthrie performs Steve's City of New Orleans which, as we know, was a hit for him in 1972. He talks about how he was playing a club in Chicago, and after the set, the manager said "There's someone here wants to talk to ya." He says he looked round the corner, and there was Steve, guitar in hand, and he said "I only want to play ya one song!" Arlo says "Most anywhere ya go, there's people ... MORE
Stuck in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, thrown in jail on a litterin' charge, and if it weren't for Alice, good old' Arlo might still be sittin' in that there jail cell....
I'd like to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving. Be safe, watch some NFL, over-eat, and we'll see you all tomorrow!

This song was originally written by Chicago Singer/Songwritter Steve Goodman, who had could only get Arlo Guthrie to listen to it if he bought him a beer first. Arlo liked it and asked to record it, and it became a hit.
I don't know if there is a more wistful or sentimental song out there, but I would put this up there with the best of them.
I picked this song today, not only because I think it's one of Arlo's best songs, but it invokes a lot of emotion in these days of turmoil in the world, and of loved ones off in foreign lands, serving to protect us all (not just Americans of course).
So for all the troops in all the armed services from all the countries who are doing their duty to protect the civilised world from terror, we salute you.
I'm flying 2,329 miles for a concert. This occasion is chock-full of firsts. I've never _flown_ somewhere solely for a show. I've also never been to California, or seen the Pacific Ocean, or even rented a car. But most importantly, I've never seen Rage Against The Machine . And now I will be! Mwa-ha-ha!!! In honor of finalizing my travel arrangements, here's a song that will most definitely be on the playlist as I fly into Los Angeles... "Coming In To Los Angeles"... MORE
...obie, i don't think i'm gonna be able to pick up the garbage with these handcuffs on...It was all about a driver's license problem...Meanwhile, words cannot properly describe the following video (and it's nine minutes long), but i started laughing at the "opening credits" and didn't stop till the end...

To all you Moggers here in the greatest country on earth, I offer to you humble happy Thanksgiving wishes. May we see many many more together.

While many in the world celebrate the harvest with unique rituals, we in the US stuff a turkey and then stuff ourselves. Every year I'm reminded of THE classic Thanksgiving song - The Alice's Restaurant Massacre. extraordinarypoems posted up on it a while back right here on MOG. It looks like it helped her day :) Heed her advice and listen to it if you can. My copy has so many pops and hisses its unbelievable...but believe me, it will go round and round the turntable tom... I'm watching the 20th anniversary of Farm Aid on INHD ... I'll watch any music that's hi-def and surround sound. Arlo Guthrie just sang "Alice's Restaurant." Kinda hurried his way through it, and who can blame him, but I was still taken aback at the idea of him still singing that song in 2005, even though he made an effort to tie it into current politics. And yet ... if the first Paul Butterfield Blues Band somehow reformed, live and dead, I'd expect them to play "East-Wes... MORE
