Likely inspired by 9 to 5, Clockwatchers, and Secretary more than anything musical, Angie Reed Presents the Best of Barbara Brockhaus revolves around the life of a squeaky-voiced secretary who detests her job and isn't very good at it. Despite her malaise and subservient position, she manages to remain in control -- just check the cover of the album, depicting her pinkies placed in the mouths of two kneeling suits. Though she's always the last to the leave the office ("You wanna play with power? Then pay me by the hour!"), she passes her time with badminton and daydreaming about raunchy encounters with exotic men. Production duties are handled by Digital Hardcore vets Patric C. and Bomb20, who both help make the album suitably at home with the remainder of Chicks on Speed's releases. The tracks veer back and forth from gnarled garage rock rave-ups to low-budget electronic grimefests.
