All Music GuideFeeling landlocked one night? Have an itch to watch a slab of red vinyl spinning around? This collection of sea shanties and foc'sle songs is just what the doctor ordered, in that case. It is a beautiful album, a skillful programming of solos and ensemble singing highlighting both artists, with occasional comments on the concertina from the dependable Alf Edwards. Things kick off with the rowdy "Blood Red Roses," followed by a solo that takes the listener into the heart and mind of a convict being transported to Tasmania. It is only one of the tracks here that has quite a profound impact. The second volume in a collection of by British and Scottish folk stalwarts A.L. Lloyd and Ewan MacColl, this could be truly appealing to even those who don't have the slightest idea what "bunting the fore" is all about. More highlights include the charming "Johnny Todd," which comes with a thick side order of concertina, and a festering "Sally Racket."
