the modern jazz pianist i go back to the most is Andrew Hill , his well of composition, performances, incredible combinations of players, and just melodic thinking just seemed bottomless. I just learned that groundbreaking pianist and composer Andrew Hill died early Friday, Blue Note label announced. He was 75. Hill, who had been diagnosed with lung cancer three years ago, died at his Jersey City, N.J., home, according to Cem Kurosman of Blue Note Records.
