AMG Review of Hotel Calamaro

All Music GuideWith this album Andrés Calamaro began his solo career, although he was still part of Los Abuelos de la Nada, a band that credited him as keyboard player and second singer despite that he was also the composer of their major hits. Hotel Calamaro is an eclectic and irregular collection of pop songs. At the time of its release it gained little attention from critics and audiences. The album contains some bizarre songs, like "Fabio Zerpa Tiene Razón," in which Fabio Zerpa, an Argentinean UFO specialist, gives his particular point of view about a Mars invasion signed by peace proposals. "No Me Pidas Que No Sea un Inconsciente" and "Otro Amor en Avellaneda," however, foreshadow the path that Calamaro would follow further on.
