..Brazilian nomad, Amon Tobin; Abuser, torturer and bender of sound into such works as ‘Permutation’ and ‘Out From Out Where’ has a history of taking vinyl, pulling it apart and reassembling it into fantastic soundscapes over diaphragm vibrating beats. After moving from the UK to Canada and finishing the commissioned soundtrack to Ubisofts Splinter Cell game, Chaos Theroy, he has decided to do things slightly different with the ‘Foley Room’.This time, Tobin decided to recor... Français en dessous On 8th March, Amon Tobin went at The Docks in Lausanne for a private show set by Couleur 3 What a great show! This man is so crazy. Gave him some tunes. Stranger it is, happier he'll be. He can make you dream whenever he want. And sure last night he does. Oh my. Fore some pics of the show, just have a look right herehttp://entertainment.webshots.com/album/548376525EpEgQSYou also can have a look to a little video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ims... MORE
There are only a few select artists whose music I actively seek out and monitor. Most of them I have spoken about at length on my MOG before, such as Ferry Corsten, C-Mon & Kypski or the Herbaliser, and among those ranks sits the dark lord of sinister beat programming, Amon Tobin. Ever since I heard 'Sordid' on the Funkungfusion compilation, he's been a consistent member of my top ten. And now I have the pleasure of introducing his newest album, released very, very recentl... Foley Room, genius, that's all, go listen... :) "There's nothing new about field recordings of course. It's obviously been the traditional source material in sampling since the early days, so I'm really going "back to school" on this one. On the other hand, I always saw a divide between music that was based purely on sound design and tunes that were written to physically move people. A challenge for me has been to try and make 'tunes' using aspects of sound design normal... MORE
My most listened to Artist of the last 7 years has to be Amon Tobin. For some reason I can listen to him over and over, unlike SquarePusher or Aphex Twin who I enjoy but I can't listen to them that much. I lost interest a bit after Verbal came out, but this new Bloodstone EP is righteous. 1st: The song Bloodstone is Tobin vs Kronos Quartet. Scratchy strings, piano, organ and some tasty Tobin sized drums. Very nice.. 2nd: Esther's, the piano is back but this time it's j... MORE
When I feel the inclination to hear some music with truly masterful beat programming, and want to bolster my inferiority complex as a musician, I throw on an Amon Tobin album. I first ran into Tobin's music in the same album that eventually led to my infatuation with the Herbaliser, the Ninjatune compilation, "Funkungfusion". His track, 'Sordid', was one of only two or three songs I've had on perpetual repeat for days at a time, over a course of many years since I first he... MORE
