of a song much better known in its later incarnation, Dulce Pontes' haunting "Canção do Mar" was posted here a long time back; it was used as the theme for a film called "Primal Fear" that I haven't seen, but hope is rather better than its title suggests. The story of the tune, though, is much older.Written over fifty years ago, and offered to fadista Maria Condessa, who considered it more suit.

I was in Alfama, one of Lisbon's oldest, most run dowm, yet liveliest districts. It and Mouraria are the former Muslim districts of the city, and it avoided, due to being situated just north of the Castelo Sao Jorge, the worst of the devastation of the 1755 eartquake and tsunami that killed up to 80,000 people in a city of about a quarter of a million.It looks like thisand has been immortalised...
