Albert Kuvezin is the leader of Tuvan group Yat-Kha. The Central Asian band has taken Tuvan folk music to uncharted territories, crossing musical boundaries. Kuvezin is also responsible for popularizing Tuvan throat singing worldwide through several of his projects.Yat-Kha has a new recording out, Re-Covers, which combines rock music with Tuvan roots. Yat-Kha are performing a couple of concerts in the second half of september in the US. I am so damned jealous that I miss them all. The World Music Festival, one of Chicago's most colorful citywide events, returns with a jam-packed schedule Sept. 14-21 for its eighth season.
