It can’t be easy when you’re hailed as the new someone-who’s-still-around. It bugs me as a listener - The View were the new Kooks who were the new Arctic Monkeys, all before the Monkeys had a second album out. And is ‘the new Winehouse’ really a compliment?
Adele doesn’t seem to mind, though presumably because the comparison is more to do with musical styles than an accusation of being volatile, unreliable and on drugs. The London born 20 year old, whose debut album, ‘19... MORE

The debut album by Adele, yet another young, soulful British singer-songwriter, is about to be released in the U.K., and from the four or five tracks I've heard, it may well be the first new-artist event of '08.
Here she is singing her new single, "Chasing Pavements" on the Jonathan Ross Show:

On September 11th, when everyone was remembering the atrocities of 9/11, I was getting on a plane leaving Heathrow Airport and arriving in Washington, D.C. to return to the place where I was born. It'd been two years since I had officially lived in the States and even though I'd come back and forth across the Atlantic for sometimes extended periods of time, the experience still felt unsettling.
Two years is a long time to be away. It's also a long time to live in one p... MORE

Adele - Chasing Pavements January 2008 sees the release of 'Chasing Pavements' Adele's second single, which will be released on XL. This is what she say's about her debut album '19' coming out next year; “The whole album is about being between 18 and 19; about love,” she continues. “‘Daydreamer’ is about this boy I was in love with, like proper in love with. He was bi and I couldn’t deal with that. All the things I wanted from my boyfriend, he was never going... MORE

Adele will return to the US next week to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live's October 18th show alongside guest host, Josh Brolin. To date Adele has topped the UK charts, been nominated for a Mercury Award and graced the televisions of millions of Americans with appearances on The Today Show, Letterman, Craig Ferguson and Ellen.

I feel like I need to add some cheer to this place after that last post. So here is the brand new video from Adele! The song is "Cold Shoulder" and the icy blue video creates a stark contrast to the warmth in Adele's voice:
She may not be the bad girl Amy is, but that voice! Yeeeow!
I also adore the bare drum breaks that accompany her words. A scrumptious song.
I loved this song on the radio, but this live studio acoustic version is just right . From Wikipedia: Adele Laurie Blue Adkins (born 5 May 1988 in Enfield, North London),[1] known professionally as Adele, is an English jazz singer. Adele has described her musical style as "heartbroken soul".[2] She is the first recipient of the BRIT Awards Critics' Choice, which was given to artists who, at the time, had yet to release an album. She has mentioned her influences are Etta Ja... MORE
This was one of those songs I never noticed until my wife pointed out to me the utter nonsensical nature of the lyrics. Chasing Pavements? What does this mean? Is she going to be a Steven Malkmus stalker? Was she a groupie who decided to jump on the neo-soul/R&B English girl thing like Duffy and Amy Winehouse? The video has no answers, other than using a motorway wreck as a motif: Meanwhile, Duffy is just on Warwick Avenue trying to break up for the last... MORE
Check out this incredible new voice from the UK. I can't say it any better than this (from amazon): "All you need to know about Adele can be learned from her live performances, accompanied by just a piano or an acoustic guitar, with a one-of-a-kind voice that conveys a rainbow of emotions, from sorrow to triumph, longing to sensuality, solitude to solidarity, a blues-soul hybrid steeped in the past, yet fully alive in the moment." The record 19 dropped in June and ... MORE
Today me and my dad cycled to the seafront, it's not too far and I'd been stuck in the house all day doing my dissertation and the current weather is that it rains like you would not believe in the morning then brightens up in the afternoon. After hours of flicking through books and writing plans out I decided I needed exercise and fast, all I seem to do is eat and work these days. So we cycled and all of my good efforts of exercise were sharp shot to hell when we decide... MORE
It's been a while but I am back on MOG. My name is LC and I am excited about the world of music around me. Things are picking up for me and I can proudly say that I am officially in my major, Sound Recording Technology. It's been a tough first two years but I am on track. One of my favorite artist out right now is Adele. I LOVE her. Her style, her voice; raw talent. One of her songs in her album depicts my personality and I am including it as a way to get a feel of who I a... MORE
