I knew when I left home yesterday, after extricating myself from the myriad conference calls that dot my schedule, that seeing A Place To Bury Strangers live could either completely satisfy, or prove a massive disappointment. There was no middle ground. I had heard too many good reports from faithful moggers whose word I trust. Being too excited to possibly wait, I left home at 4pm, hopped in the Jetta, cranked the MP3 player, and got on the road. The albums on the trip ... MORE

You know you’re at a good show when you see members of other good local bands milling around the club. I was pretty early to the game to being a fan of A Place to Bury Strangers, and I’m happy to see a packed Bottom of the Hill after seeing them here earlier this [...]

According to their myspace, A Place to Bury Strangers are the loudest band out there now. They are performing tonight in NY but I am scared I may blow my ear drums....
What do you think?
They got serious raves at CMJ and the bartender at my neighborhood dive bar has been wearing their t-shirt for days.
They remind me of the Smiths and JAMC with a darker shade of black...
Intro - Locals OnlyLocals Only is a small Indianapolis bar that bills itself as a music and art bar. This was only the second time I've been to the place, and it was the first time I'd gone to see a band play. The bar looks like it has been around for a while; then again, it's the type of bar that probably looked aged when it was new. The place has that certain second-hand appeal to it that attracts the local hipsters. With a collection of vintage beer cans adorning th... MORE
A Place To Bury Strangers is one of the two bands to come out of the dreampop band Skywave (1995-2003), the other being Ceremony. Since the first and only MOG post about APTBS so far (from June 2006, huge props to aytch!), the band have had various recordings that have been sold on CD-Rs at shows or circulated in the Internet professionally mixed, mastered, and released as an album by Killer Pimp Records. Here's a way to describe it. During his Skywave period, the APTBS f... MORE

San Francisco was a land of concert plenty on December 5th. A couple of months back I'd already had to decide between Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and The Thermals. Having loved The Thermals' debut album in 2003 but not having managed to see them live yet, I opted for a ticket to their show - but with a heavy heart over ... MORE

From APTBS monster debut LP on Killer Pimp, here's the official video for "I Know I'll See You." The video was shot via webcam by Director Adam Grabarnick (adamgrabarnick.com) from his home in Los Angeles while the band were in their RV on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Ohio during their recent tour. The band was was parked at a Denny's in Delaware, Ohio prior to their show at Oberlin College on November 11 while the shoot took place. This innovative... MORE
You ever wonder how they work out who opens for whom on indie small-club tours? Saturday night in LA, A Place to Bury Strangers killed as an opening band for Holy Fuck. Until the day of the show, I thought APTBS was the headliner. Don't get me wrong -- Holy Fuck was great, too. But APTBS seems to be getting more buzz, and they look like a band going somewhere. On stage, APTBS lived up to that buzz -- in fact it felt like seeing Janes Addiction or Nirvana in a club righ... MORE
It's been one of those weeks at work. The kind of work days that bleed into and leave dark stains all over your real life. There were high points to the week, but they were nearly lost in the continual frustration I'm dealing with. On these frustrating days, I've been turning to A Place to Bury Strangers more and more often. I've grown to really like this band, and I think they are great to listen to while working. They give me something to channel my frustrations in... MORE
The body has its own natural rhythm and, as both your local DJ and doctor will tell you, its own BPM.

I just discovered this album today and am digging it. If you like super-heavy fuzzy noise and extremely loud reverb-drenched music in the vein of bands like the Jesus and Mary Chain, then you will like this.
Anyway, this is the first track off their album, which came out in '07. Give it a listen if you haven't already.

You can find A Place to Bury Strangers at aplacetoburystrangers.com. You'll also find many tracks (nearly the entire first album!) available for download at a reasonable 128 kb/s. But what do they sound like, you ask? APTBS is like My Bloody Valentine was hanging out with Morrisey at a pub somewhere in a very grimy city, when the Flaming Lips walked in and dosed them up with some heavy PCP. After a bad breakup or ten, APTBS reared it's distortion-laden, wall-of-guitars... MORE
