78 Saab clearly works well with a faintly angular feel for Australian indie pop. Picture a Hum Can't Hear a Sound rumbled along with the spirited drive of Matthew Sweet or The Charlatans and yet, like the charismatic "Smile," was still jagged enough to sit alongside some of the rare relaxed garage rock of Sweden's The Hives. Unfortunately, after a lengthy production schedule and an absence of anything that would identify the band as Sydney natives, it didn't total up to much, largely a 13-track rustle of guitar hooks that didn't hold up nearly as well as it could have.
