All Music Guide16 Horsepower come from the Denver area and ably fill the void left when the Violent Femmes quit making rustic-sounding music like this. Mountain music is the best way to describe what lies here; much of 16 Horsepower lies on the dark side. Conjuring up images of fire and brimstone preachers, leader David Edwards pushes the band through good music way left of the mainstream.
