lately i've been waking up real early to the sounds of elephants upstairs (AKA my neighbor and her son whose basement I live in). so i look around my dark living room, roll off my milk crate bed lovingly crafted by a sweet boy who resides in CT this week, pad into the kitchen, press the coffee button, and pick up a mix that 'someone' put together for me this summer.

when i start to stop leaving the house, and roll around this place in a bathrobe, it's nice to find some new-old-old music just sitting on a countertop. and upon an early early morning (god, it was early and still is) run through, i found myself replaying this track just like the first time i listened to the mix in totale. in addition to the track that got me going this morning, i've thrown in one more dark horse track from this spendid surprise from the past: townes van zandt who gave us not only great songs, but the art of songwriting.

dear all,

after having disappeared for the summer, i am back to mogging. perhaps it is a break from working on a portfolio, or knitting scarf after scarf. anyways, i mog once again. my mood these days is a bit more settled, a bit more centered, a bit more melancholy.

am currently in a bathrobe sort of mentality and am getting turned on to the night shift for writing purposes. lo-fi sounding, muffled sounds good these days, for example, my morning jacket's cover of jefferson airplane's 'white rabbit.' minus actually ingesting mushrooms.'

i cannot say that i have very much to say, so i'm going to give you the first mp3 you've seen from me in awhile. don't look for the motown/funky hits of yore. regardless, you know i have a soft spot for the older stuff. such as mr. john prine.

love, me

Welcome back! I, for one, missed you. I'm always a bit bemused by the many moggers who announce they're back after an absence and my reaction is "who dat?". Not so with you. A great vid to come back with, too. I love John Prine.

ARTIST: DAVID STRACKNEY TRACK: IN THE MORNING LINDA DIES YEAR: APRIL 29th 2006 so this guy (david strackney) here decided to write 365 songs in 365 days. he calls this project his 'Song Diary.' i dunno how many of you sweethearts have heard of him, but i didn't know about him until he popped up on a mix that was given to me. while some songs might sound more appealing than others, this boy is bangin. in his own words, these songs are what come out of him and he doesn't judge them. they are what they are on any given day. holler david.

lyrics from said 'Song Diary' include those from my favorite, 'in the morning linda dies': 'i am safe & i am sorry in the evergreens at night & i am looking through your window i am staring at your mind...

we are careless with our wishing with the truths we tell through teeth you be careful what you pay for when the soul is your receipt.'

this one is a keeper. and so might be mr. strackney.

I recall reading an interview with Chris Isaak where he said that he makes it a point to write a song every day no matter what, the idea being that you "can't write 365 bad songs"; _one_ of them has to be good.

It's a great idea and takes a lot of discipline to accomplish. This is great stuff. David Strackney has made my "need to find" list. Thanks!
