WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

More Noise!

Yep, it's good, thanks again Mog. More brainy and indie than Lightning Bolt, but still good n rowdy. Got to give it up to bands that do the no-singer thing. Screw vocals, MAKE MORE NOISE.

  1. Spencer Owen says Wow, MOG introduced you to Hella? Nice. Guess what - they have a singer now. Oh no!! Still, they have several releases without one. I highly recommend Total Bugs Bunny on Wild Bass. Gotta give it up for Tha Bolt, though ... at least I do. I love Hypermagic Mountain!

  2. pETULENTfRENZY9000 says Hella.......right. I've heard that name batted around from time to time but never really got a chance to check'em out yet. No time like the present. And *Hooray for new music*

  3. ilcv says Glad you liked Hella. Lessee, if you dug Don Cab and now Hella, like a friend of mine whose taste falls squarely in that realm, perhaps you'd dig The Oxes. I only posit it this way, cos I haven't heard much of their catalogue. Also, the two records, The Man, The King, The Girl and Reveille by Deerhoof are classic. Not exactly the same kind of thing, but the furious energy of this band on those records (and live when they were touring for them) is just sick. Since Apple O and Milkman they've taken a more tempered approach to writing their music - those two records were still quite good, but it mutes the noisier aspects you find on those preceding records. And if there're any reasons to see Deerhoof live, it's because of the frenetic dueling guitars and Greg's intense drumming. I know they probably don't want to go back to it, but when Greg used to play on this pared down kit, barefoot and sitting on a milk crate (the guy's like 6'4") was when he was at his best - a monster unleashed on those drums - probably dreaming of a real drum stool. I'm guessing that now that he has one, he's lost all the fight in him (I kid...mostly). Definitely check out "The Magnificent Bird will Rise" on Reveille. One of my favourite songs, EVER. Also, check out Melt Banana, The Locust, and The Ex. Have you listened to the early Boredoms, yet? I suggest Chocolate Synthesizer.
