WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Why Is Bonnie Raitt so hot?

Posted over 3 years ago
I mean, I have as short an attention span as the rest of us. (well, maybe not that short...). I always forget stuff, and it's not like I sit around drawing her picture on the knee of my jeans in class. Why has my crush on her not worn off yet? Sure she's awesome, but so is a lot of other music that doesn't always grab me when I hear it. You know, when it comes up on shuffle, or at someone else's house, or at the grocery store (I KNOW, it's lame), or even on mother f'ing KFOG. Every time. That record ("Fundamental") sounds so awesome and 3D, her vox are big and in your face, the guitars are sweet, the bottom end is hitting, and the band is cool (David Hidalgo, Joey Spampinato, Pete f'ing Thomas!). And you got Mitch Froom and Tchad Blake at the desk, still putting their cool flavor on everything (compressed drum sounds, distorted vocals, cool small reverbs, weird percussion, you know what I mean), but they also have the good sense to lay off the hipster trickiness long enough to get out of the way of the songs and of Bonnie Raitt's SEXY ASS PERFORMANCES. She is so cool. If you can take a little cheesy "old person" vibe in your musical day, do your self a favor, this record is just good.

  1. ivylander says Yikes, that's a storming band! My take on her is that, in addition to being unusually blessed with ability and taste, she comes across as a woman who's comfortable with herself and with the idea of growing up. That, to men of taste, is pretty close to irresistable. The hair's an asset. too....

  2. Beachy says "and it’s not like I sit around drawing her picture on the knee of my jeans in class" rotflmao..that was a good line! I have always had an affinity for her as well, ivylander is right, she comes across as comfortable in her (sexy/freckled) skin. Confidence is the hotness

  5. dermahrk says I have all her stuff, and she just keeps getting better. And I APPRECIATE a cheesy "old person" vibe (being one). Love the fact that Brian Wilson is really back and the Stones are still rockin'.

  6. that says WOW. Pete Thomas and Mitchell Froom? Talk about the A-team. And yeah, Bonnie is an exquisite musician and singer and a woman who wears her experience beautifully.

  7. pETULENTfRENZY9000 says As a musician, (guitar mostly) I really dig on her phrasing, note choice, and the incredible smoothness in which she plays. If there was such a thing as a "woman's touch" to playing the guitar (as I'm sure there is..) Bonnie's got it in spades. And don't get me started on that voice...... Bonnie is a force of nature. And being hot, talented, effortlees looking in her craft and one hell of a talented and tastful player...... Well Fellas....how could we get over that?

  8. annie says I've always loved Bonnie Raitt- she's been on my secret guilty pleasure list since high school. My friends never understood, but she's the absolute shit. I'll check out "fundamental', but loved Nick of Time (and still do) as well as the "I'm in the Mood" duet with John Lee Hooker.

  9. kat3260 says She is hot fire. The VH1 Storytellers version of "You" with her & Allison Krauss gives me chills every single time. And her signature white streak in that mane of fiery red hair...she kicks ass.
