MOG MOG

MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album: GetBack
Track:
(127)

In 2006, a Hip-Hop superstar reiterated some feelings that Hip-Hop was dead. Apparently, in 2007, the genre/industry has been resurrected.

In a year that has already featured one of my favorite Hip-Hop albums of the last few years (Pharoahe Monch's Desire), that album probably won't even crack my top 3 for 2007. As it's been somewhat well documented on MOG, Common's upcoming album Finding Forever has the potential to out-do his last effort, Be as his best. That's difficult for me to say, as Be was a tremendous album. Furthermore, we have already seen the return of T.I. with T.I. vs. T.I.P., Kanye has released a mixtape with Graduation right around the corner, Talib Kweli (though admittedly I can't stand his new single) has his first Blacksmith (his own label) record on the horizon, and of course the legendary Wu-Tang Clan (sans ODB, RIP) have "Reunited" for a new album.

There are of course many more albums being released, but I am focusing on one with this post. North Carolina's finest emcee's, Rapper Big Pooh and Phonte have their new album, Get Back hitting stores soon. Though the album is without the now-very-famous-producer 9th Wonder, who was part of the group up until now (he supposedly did leave the group amicably, but who knows?), the remaining duo have some new producers featured for their new one, and I'm curious as to see the result. Here is their track featured on their myspace page, and if you haven't read their blog before, trust me, try it out... it is hilarious and well-worth it.

P.S. yes, I know it's not Thursday, hence, it's not Hip-Hop Thursday, but I can post only once in a long while now, so I gotta make do... my apologies to those offended!

First of thanks for the new track. I am a little brother fan, andglad to see that they are coming out with some new ish. I'm kind of nervous about them without 9th Wonder though. 9th is a beast, and I think he really carried the group. Like, the "I Love it," beat from Minstrel Show was sick, but I think Lil Wayne ripped it better on a mixtape than Little Brother. ( I understand that comparing the LBs to Wayne is unfair, but he ripped it degrees better. I still love the group for themselves though. Phonte is a beast.

Oh, and, you said that Be is Common's best album (until Finding Forever comes out), what about Resurrection? Ressurection is an amazing album, one of my favorites of all time, let alone Common's best.

oh I definitely agree about Resurrection, I guess I meant "best" by most commercial success, which I guess doesn't really mean sh*t in retrospect.

There's a bunch of great hip hop this year...i'm pretty sure common is gonna outdo himself with this new one, everything i've heard is fire. I'm a kanye fanatic, so even these awful colabs (john mayer, jessica simpson, chris martin, etc) probably won't disappoint. Anyway I dig the little brother track, and him in general, thanks for it!

Jessica Simpson...WTF? John Mayer is amazing though. Another artist you should look for is Murs. He has been underground for years, and he has worked with the LBs. He is a majo-label release this year. I'm sad to say that I haven't heard Pharaoh Monch's album yet. I will check it out though.
