Okay okay, so I know that MOG is about music and everything, and I'm sure the rest of you out there are probably sick and tired of hearing from Red Sox fans (I know I am sick of about half of them), but today is Opening Day at Fenway Park, and even though it's a steamy 41 degrees out [here] right now... our beloved Red Sox take the field at 2:05. Since I was a little kid, it's pretty much been a hypothetical tug o' war (and one for the ages) between my main loves, music... and sports. I understand that's not exactly a rare concept, but so many of my memories revolve around my experiences in both of these forms of entertainment. I vividly remember Game 6 of the '86 World Series, even as a 7-year old I was a die-hard Sox fan and for the very first time in my life that night, I had my heart broken (it wouldn't be the last time the Red Sox would do that to me). But what I'm getting at here is, at least for me, sports and music are synonymous, especially when it comes to reminding of me of a day or a time in my past as if it was still going on...
To tie this into this post, and to throw up a little kudos to the new Ted Leo album, TL & the Pharmacists have a repeated line in their song "The Lost Brigade," that rang true to me, which was "every little memory has a song..." And I think all of us out there associate certain songs with certain memories, and I don't know about the rest of you, but when these song plays for me, I'm instantly transported back to where I was when I first heard that song, or when it was etched in my memory forever... one of the little powers that music has over me...
....oh yeah, and Go SOX!!!
