In 2006, a Hip-Hop superstar reiterated some feelings that Hip-Hop was dead. Apparently, in 2007, the genre/industry has been resurrected. In a year that has already featured one of my favorite Hip-Hop albums of the last few years (Pharoahe Monch's Desire), that album probably won't even crack my top 3 for 2007. As it's been somewhat well documented on MOG, Common's upcoming album Finding Forever has the potential to out-do his last effort, Be as his best. That's difficult for me to say, as Be was a tremendous album. Furthermore, we have already seen the return of T.I. with T.I. vs. T.I.P., Kanye has released a mixtape with Graduation right around the corner, Talib Kweli (though admittedly I can't stand his new single) has his first Blacksmith (his own label) record on the horizon, and of course the legendary Wu-Tang Clan (sans ODB, RIP) have "Reunited" for a new album. There are of course many more albums being released, but I am focusing on one with this post. North Carolina's finest emcee's, Rapper Big Pooh and Phonte have their new album, Get Back hitting stores soon. Though the album is without the now-very-famous-producer 9th Wonder, who was part of the group up until now (he supposedly did leave the group amicably, but who knows?), the remaining duo have some new producers featured for their new one, and I'm curious as to see the result. Here is their track featured on their myspace page, and if you haven't read their blog before, trust me, try it out... it is hilarious and well-worth it.
P.S. yes, I know it's not Thursday, hence, it's not Hip-Hop Thursday, but I can post only once in a long while now, so I gotta make do... my apologies to those offended!
