HHT: Kweli

Busting out the big guns for this edition of Hip-Hop Thursday... usually for songs that I love as is, I don't love the remixes, especially the ones that featuring a ton of different artists. This is an exception. They keep the original classic beat from the song and some of the better known hip-hop acts are featured...And a really cool video featuring Dave Chappelle/De La Soul, etc on some of the "behind the scenes" stuff from the making of Talib's & Hi-Tek's classic Reflection Eternal:

  3. TroyPowers says Yeah, this was definitely a fitting remix. Funny how Jay-Z can sit beside Mos Def and Kweli and not seem out of place. I love this song. Everybody ripped this one.

  7. TroyPowers says Even more unbelievable, Jay-Z signed Dead Prez to Roc-a-fella records for a hot minute, which is where they recorded the album this is on (Revolutionary But Gangsta). Even more surprising, I like the original version (sans Jigga-man) better. Simply because, to make room for Jay's verse, they cut out my favorite verse where they say, "And don't put me on dishes. I'm droppin' them bitches, and takin' all day long to mop the kitchen." I have a serious aversion to washing dishes, so that line gets me right in the heart. :)

  8. moovyphreak says I love the beat in that first tune. Is that Nina Simone being sampled at the beginning? Also, it sounds like her tune "Sinner Man" is sampled throughout.

  9. msquared64 says pretty sure it is Nina Simone... not sure what song though.

  10. msquared64 says sh*t Henry, all I've heard is two tracks, "Listen," which I don't even know will be on it anymore, and "More or Less." I heard "Listen" over a year ago for the first time... when's this dropping?

  13. msquared64 says nice nice... thanks for the heads-up Henry, I can't wait for that album, as well as Common's, Kanye's and, surprisingly (never was a huge fan until recently, and even now I'm still a bit skeptical) T.I.'s. Should be a good summer!
