Countdown to Coachella, # 6

Oh man, putting up one of the Decemberists songs is not easy for me, and picking one of their more radio-friendly songs is even tougher, because their catalogue is tremendous in so many ways, much due to Colin's story-telling ability, the stories generally being sweeping tales of sea and land battles from yesteryear. However, on this song, "16 Military Wives," originally off of their last indie-label release Picaresque, the Decemberists offer some political and social commentary of the current state of affairs. Including the opinion that most "anchorperson(s) on TV" really aren't saying too much. And that's where this song (especially if it is performed similarly to the way it is in this version) should push the crowd over the edge:...and as Stephen A. Smith would say, quite frankly, the prospect of an enormous, sun (probably among other things) energized crowd singing "LA DEE DA!! DA DEE DEE DEE DEE DA!!!" while being conducted by the lead singer is pretty freakin' cool in my opinion...
