Yeah, it's barely even October, but just a concert tip to those in the Twin Cities area - if you haven't been to one of the annual Low Christmas shows at First Avenue, you should definitely buy tickets for their show December 9th this year. It's a holiday concert as only Low could do it, with their sound filled out by a few extra musicians, a small choir, and a minimalist (if crowded stage) of undecorated fir trees surrounding everyone. Roughly the first half is holiday/winter songs, then they pare back to their normal 3-piece configuration and play just Low songs. It's a wonderful event, and last year they used the proceeds to fund building a school in Kenya. It's only $12 and it always sells out, so buy your tix now. I guarantee you will enjoy it.

I'm very jelous. I did see them play at Orchestra Hall in mpls a few years ago at that 24-hour music festival they had there. I wonder if that concert still happens?

The Low Christmas album is always my favorite Christmas album.

It's not a band or a song, it's a "lifestyle" brand: Bape. This is the Tokyo Bapexclusive store in Aoyama, right behind the stunning Herzog and de Meuron Prada temple - definitely check both out whenever you get a chance to go to Tokyo. And the super-funky Commes des Garcons store right up the street. All totally amazing shopping experiences. And yes, I did buy some shoes, but for my 15-year old son. I'm 42, I'd look like a complete dork in these.

Are there any cool places to catch alternative Japanese bands in Tokyo? I'll be there this Friday and Saturday night and would love to check out some local music.
