Blues Birthdays 4/29 - Otis Rush

Posted about 5 years ago
Happy Birthday to "*Otis Rush*":http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:apfyxq9gldfe, born this day in 1934. This is a live performance captured from some black & white TV show in 1966. Check out Otis' killer hairdo, his shades and that riveting, unaccompanied vocal opening. I also love the understated way he opens his solo. And...were those white folks on some massive field trip or something? Pat Boone must've been coming up later on the bill, maybe.Otis Rush is credited by critics and his fellow musicians with helping to define the Chicago blues sound, but he's never gotten quite the level of respect he deserved from the general public. I believe he suffered a stroke in 2004, but has since recovered and continues to perform.
