I saw a great gig at the High Noon Saloon on July 16th. . . Dead Rock West supporting and backing John Doe of X fame.
I went down to the venue around 5 during the soundcheck to ask John if I would be allowed to record the show, and he was kind enough to say YES! Dave Carpenter from Dead Rock West said it would be cool if I recorded their set as well.
(This shot was not actually taken during soundcheck proper, but actually shortly after they let the crowd in around 9PM)I had recorded John at the 2006 Cracker Camper Van Beethoven Campout so I brought him a set of CD's of his performances there- including when he sat in with Camper Van Beethoven on X's White GirlDead Rock West played first, and they were really good- I am stoked to see them play a whole show some time. Dead Rock West and Nick Luca backed up John Doe, and played for about 75 minutes. Awesome set drawing a lot off his A Year In The Wilderness, his most recent Yeproc Records release, as well as a few off the previous one, "Forever Hasn't Happened Yet" and a couple of X songs. The encores were covers by Joni Mitchell and the Stones. Very rockin' show, although John's electric guitar was not working properly midway through the set (not sure why) so he played acoustic a little more than he had planned to.Setlist:The Losing KindBig Blue HouseThe Golden Statetech breakDarling UnderdogMama Don'tA Little More TimeTwin Brother?"walk around this downtown half a hundred times" (Anyone know the title of this one?
