'Comfortably Numb' Politrix vs Wall St up against The Wall (Pink Floyd) and wrapped in a bow with Masters Of War (Bob Dylan)
Well, I have been trying to get back to the story I started in my first post, but finally realised that I need to deal with some more current and pressing matters, so I will probably add to it in the future as an edit to the first post, but will let you all know when I have done so....
So...here it is, Sunday morning in NYC and winter has finally arrived - it is damn cold and the best thing that can be said about the last couple of weeks is that watching politics and Wall St collide is like being handed a leaky bucket by the Captain of the Titanic and told to do the best we can with it as he steps into a lifeboat and informs us that the crew have already abandoned ship.
Bye Bye Bush. Your legacy is well and truly set in stone as the worst President in USA history.
I want to be very clear about the fact that I totally respect the tough times John McCain survived as a POW but I do not think that qualifies him to be the next man to get his hands on the levers of power. Because I don't think his brain nor his health is up to the job. He has been reeling from the frying pan to the fire with the desperation of a blind man with a bent penny outside one of those old fashioned toilets, his hands squeezing his own nuts to distract him from the urge to spray wherever he can.
And NOBODY is talking about the fact that if that pack of ravenous hyenas which goes under the name of the Republican Party gets McCain elected, then given his health and age, the likelihood of him passing on into his own personal Valhalla before the end of his term is pretty high.
Which would put the beyond the pail (sic) Palin at the helm of that Titanic travesty. Lets pray it doesn't happen because there will be nobody left here to turn out the lights. The sound of stampeding feet as half of NYC heads for JFK and finally makes that long planned move to Berlin will be enough to start an earthquake.
It's about time she copped some real heat for the mockery she is making of the political system in this country. If it wasn't being so tragically believed by waaaay too many voters, her record in Alaska would be laughable. Do these people really believe that being Mayor for 5 years of a town with 5469 inhabitants and then Governor of a state with 683,478 people for less than 2 years qualifies her to be one (faltering) heartbeat away from running the 'most powerful country in the world'?
She thinks she was hard done by after the Katie Couric interview showed her to be truly an Empress with no clothes. I wonder how she will feel if she finally loses the battle to keep the lid on her own ties to an anti American terrorist that makes Obama's indiscretions look like a walk in the park.
A few months ago Palin offered her support to the secessionist Alaska Independence Party, when she addressed their annual convention. For 7 years her husband was an active member of the AIP, which was founded by that extreme weirdo Joe Vogler. Check the video (thanks youtube):
This is an excellent story which should be required reading for every American considering voting for this politrixian who could be the President after next: http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/10/07/palins_unamerican/index.html and this story is fairly 'enlightening' as well: http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/09/15/bess/
Anyway, the Republicans were whining all week about Obama outspending them in advertising. Like we're supposed to feel sorry for them? Just because he broke George W's record in the last election? And after the damage they have done this great country in the last 8 years? They are acting all wounded and hurt that they are so far behind in the polls.
Finally.
The American people have wised up this time around and are not going to take anymore of the bullshit they've been fed for the last 8 years.
Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Bush & their assorted goons should be dragged out of their holes in the middle of the night, hooded and thrown onto planes which would carry them to another country not under juristiction of US law where they could learn that water boarding is nothing like boogie boarding before being brought back here and thrown into jail where they could be repeatedly ravaged by all the 3 strikers...
This is one of the greatest rants and political wrap ups yet shown on TV. Thank you Keith Olberman:
Former Australian Labour Party leader Mark Latham once famously described a visit to Washington DC by then Liberal Party (Republicans of Australia) Leader John Howard and his retinue as a 'conga line of suck-holes'. And where did that get Howard in the end? He lost his seat at the last election. The first Australian Prime Minister to do so since 1929. I laughed hysterically when I saw what had happened to him.
Anyway, what has this got to do with music I hear you asking? Well, right now I am listening to Masters Of War by Bob Dylan and it seems like the right soundtrack to be playing as the Bush days draw to an end....
Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
While the death count gets higher
Then you hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
(c) Bob Dylan
And the perfect theme song for John McCain has to be Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. The words are apt for That One who isn't sure how many houses he has:
Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on, Come on, Come on, now,
I hear you're feeling down.
I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I'll need some information first.
Just the basic facts.
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a FEVER My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
I have become comfortably numb.
O.K.
Just a little pin prick.
There'll be no more aaaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
but I have become comfortably numb.
(c) David Gilmour & Roger Waters
And now that I've gotten that off my chest, I will move on and finally throw up some of my pictures in the next post. CMJ starts in 2 days time here in NYC and I have no idea what I'm going to do there as the list of panels and bands playing is so overwhelmingly huge that I'm almost tempted to just stay home and watch more politrix, but as I'm sure you can tell by this point, I'm fairly well overdosed on that particular poison and so its time to leave the TV and the house alone with one another for a while and go back out into that cold cold world to see what is happening in that other sinking Titanic, the music industry. I am sure I will be doing lots of everything and so will be attempting to post every day whilst CMJ is on and let you all know about the good the bad and the ugly. And the beautiful and the damned.

that clip of Olberman made my day. Great post by the way
Thanks for the comment - every history class in America should have that Olberman clip as a required part of the syllabus. Pass it on to everyone you know....
I can not tell you the amount of his clips I have passed on to friends. I make it a point to watch him every night
