Album: Somewhere in the City
Track: When the Night Turns Cold, God's Highway, Somewhere in the City, For Elisabeth Wherever She Is

Spurred on by Lizziegreeneye's post on Swedish folkie José González, I thought I'd recommend a fellow Swedish folkie who is not quite as well known in the U.S.

I had the chance to see Tobias (pronounced "Toe-Bee-Us") Fröberg play at a joint-artist show with Jenny Owen Youngs and Jim Bianco back in early March.

While José González had his song "Heartbeats" featured in an advertisement for Sony's Bravia TV line, much like his fellow Swede, Fröberg had his song "When the Night Turns Cold" featured in an advertisement for Panasonic cameras.

Here's a handful of Fröberg's videos for your aural and visual enjoyment. If you're a fan of José González, chances are that you'll quickly become a fan of Tobias Fröberg.

Think he could grow on me... musically reminds me of Nick Drake - this I love ! Somewhere in the City kinda makes me think Paul Simon - also cool !!!

I would need to get used to his voice - Dig it on God's Highway & Somewhere in the City - a little less on the other two tracks.

(But anyone who uses my name in a song - even when it's spelled incorrectly - they get major points for that) ;)

Loved that JOY !!! Sister killed me :) Remember you posted about her too didn't you ??? :) Great minds.

I do think he would grow on me, Thanks !!!

Lizzie...If I can get used to Peter Bjorn and John, then I could certainly get used to his voice (and I loved PB and J on first listening). You are right about the Paul Simon feel in that city song. Moovy, I like these posts...I am now on the lookout.

Dang, my video processor is so slow on my computer at home...I can't see the videos, but the songs still come through. I am just generally complaining. Not expecting anyone to change that...just bitching about it. I am starting to get fed up about it.

Further proof that there's quite a lot of wonderful music out there, as long as you know where to find it or are directed there by a savvy MOGger. MOG: Roadmap to the Sounds of Tomorrow.

Lizzie...Yep, JOY was a lot of fun. She's coming back to play in this area later this summer. I'm definitely gonna plan on going to see her live again.

Haha, I had to laugh, because of your "(pronounced “Toe-Bee-Us)” - that's the same way as we would pronounce this name ;).

Well, I added that because I am so used to saying "Toe-Buy-Us" and he was the first person I'd ever known with that name that pronounced it "Toe-Bee-Us."
