Track:Wicked Ride [Live]
Back in March, emscee made a post about a young chanteuse from Philadelphia he'd just seen in concert by the name of Melody Gardot.Ms. Gardot, whose voice is a soul-stirring mixture reminiscent of Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux & Fiona Apple, is an as-yet unsigned musician working the club scene when she can.
Thing is, as the result of a horrible accident in 2003 at age 19, during which she was hit by a Jeep while riding her bicycle, she is partially physically and visually handicapped and continues to suffer from other related ailments. It was during her intensive recovery when she was still unable to walk, that her doctors recommended that she consider using music to help repair her cognitive abilities, as a result of head injuries sustained during the accident. The music she created was eventually released on a 2005 EP titled Some Lessons - The Bedroom Sessions and within two years of her accident, she began recording a full-length album titled Worrisome Heart. After emscee's post, I was instantly captivated by her music and ordered both albums, including an autographed copy of Worrisome Heart.
Melody is touring here and there this summer, with a handful of shows mostly in the Northeast; in fact, just last night she played at a show at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC. She is unable to keep an extremely active touring schedule due to her continuing recovery and also because she is forced to wear dark glasses due to a hypersensitivity to light and walk with a cane. She also has to sit in a special chair when performing due to a pelvic misalignment and wear a small black box on her waist called a TENS unit, which helps with neuralgic/muscle pain. For more info on Melody, check out her official website or her MySpace page. So, here's a live recording from a performance in NYC at The Cutting Room of a track that appeared on both her EP and full album.I hope you enjoy her music as much as I have.
