I decided to make one more post this week, as I will be escaping to the environs of the Smoky Mountains for the holiday weekend after work tomorrow to spend time with my mom, sister and cousins at our family's cabin. And while I'm not "leaving on a jet plane," I thought it was appropriate that I share this cover with you.Originally written by the late John Denver in 1967 when he was stuck in an airport layover, "Leaving on a Jet Plane" achieved its true fame in 1969, when it was performed by folk group Peter, Paul & Mary and is considered to be their biggest (and final) hit, prior to their initial break-up.It's been covered by quite a few artists over the years, but a couple of years ago, I discovered this version by Canadian singer-songwriter, Chantal Kreviazuk. It appeared on the soundtrack for the 1998 summer action spectacle Armageddon and became an international hit, but I only remember the Aerosmith song. I want to say that the song is featured in the end credits for the film, but am not positive, as I only really watched it all the way through once and that was enough for me.
"Hello-o-o-o-o, NURSE!"Nevertheless, this cover is great and I highly recommend you plug in some headphones to listen to the song for the first go-round (I won't ruin the surprise, but it's rather cool!)
I hope everyone (those that observe it, of course) has a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
