MOG MOG

WHERE JIMI JANIS AND JIM WOULD HAVE BLOGGED

Artist:
Album: Meat Is Murder

Morrissey, an avid vegetarian who's 2nd album with the Smiths was titled Meat Is Murder, took a stand at the Wireless festival in London last week.  During his performance, he told the audience he could smell the meat across the stage.  And this was after the singer tried to ban meat from the backstage area where he had hung posters of the Meat Is Murder album cover.  But, the Rascals, living up to their name, defaced the posters with glee.  The boys drew loads of hamburgers on the album covers and changed the name to read Meat Is Boss.

On one hand, I can understand how sickening the smell of hamburgers on the grill would smell to a vegetarian of over 25 years.  On the flip side, I don't see him converting anyone with these tactics.

Where do you stand mog friends?  Meat Is Boss or Meat Is Murder?  Who are the vegetarians here and who are the avid meat handlers?  Just curious.

Did any of you become vegetarian because of Morrissey at some point?

I've been a vegetarian for over 7 years, and it definitely has nothing to do with Morrissey.  For me, being a vegetarian is a personal thing that I do because it suits me and my lifestyle.  It isn't really about animal rights and I would never try to convert anyone or demand that meat be kept away from me (even if the smell does gross me out sometimes).

Morrissey's a ponce.  I can admire someone who makes their own choices for personal reasons, but people that try to dictate what other people do irritate me.  Vegetarianism doesn't make sense as an animal rights movement.  If you oppose cruelty in industry, that's fine, but unless you're willing to remove ALL animal-based products from your life (a near impossible task), then shut it.  And why draw the line at animals?  Last time I checked, plants, insects and microbes are alive too.  At some point, it just gets ridiculous.  I love animals, in fact, I usually prefer their company to people, but the food chain exists throughout nature.  Are meat-eating animals cruel?

great comments deg and Lethe!  it begs the question, is Morrissey cruel to other humans, which are in fact animals themselves?

Judging by the state of most festival food, even meat lovers wouldn't want to be downwind of those burgers.

If we weren't meant to eat animals, then they wouldn't be made of food.
