Yesterday I posted "Toe Jam", the latest single from Fatboy Slim's Brighton Port Authority. Today I found the band's myspace page, which offers a few more details. It turns out there's a full album in the works, including more stellar collaborations like Iggy Pop, Martha Wainwright and Ashley Beedle. Some of these songs have been circulating for awhile now, but this will be the first time they are released together. Iggy Pop sings on a wonderful cover of Monochrome Set's "He's Frank", Wainwright guests on "Spade" and Beedle appears on "Should I Stay Or Should I Blow", all of which you can currently hear streaming on the BPA myspace. The myspace page suggests that other songs on the debut BPA album will include "Dirty Sheets" and "Jump The Fence".
On the sole myspace blog post, you'll find the funniest story about a band's history (even crazier than the legend of the long-lost Dragons reel featuring Dennis Dragon's recordings from the 60's). One assumes it's completely fictitous, due to the sheer comedy and farcical characters, but who knows? Perhaps these recordings really are the long lost Port Authority tapes that Dr. Randolph Seal has searched 10 years for. Perhaps Iggy Pop really did record "He's Frank" 4 years before Monochrome Set wrote the song. No matter what their origin, these are some damn fine tunes!
So far, no further info is available on when the album will be released, nor an official title. Though the rumours suggest it will be released on Southern Fried (Slim's label which is releasing the "Toe Jam" single) and it may be titled We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat.
"Here's Frank" was released on the soundtrack for NBC's "Heroes" tv show. There's no official video yet, but here's the audio with random video:
