This time last year, I wrote 2 chapters for a book that was released in October. The book is called "Reggae Scrapbook" and it features gorgeous glossy photos of many reggae musicians, taken by Peter Simon plus stories about reggae's rich history as told by Roger Steffens. Many of the stories were told to Roger (by the artists featured in the photos) during his long career as a reggae archivist, radio show host and creator of the reggae Beat magazine. The book is overflowing with scrapbook-type mementos like flyers, stickers, posters, postcards and the like from reggae promotions around the world. The book is so amazing and culturally rich, I half expected to find a sticky nug tucked in somewhere! Anyhow, I wrote the a chapter about current reggae music, including dancehall, dub/digidub, jungle, etc. and a chapter about the children of reggae stars who have picked up the torch and continue to blaze. It's been a great experience and recently led to my own book deal (to create another scrapbook-type book expanding on what I started in this book).

I bring this up because Roger Steffens, Peter Simon and I are getting together with friends at the Babylon Falling bookstore in SF for a book signing/photo exhibit. The exhibit showcases Peter Simon's photos, some from the Reggae Scrapbook plus many others, and will be available at the bookstore for over a month. Simon will present his photo collection on the evening of May 10th at the same time all 3 of us will be there to discuss the Reggae Scrapbook and sign copies. If you're in the Bay Area and would like to come out, either to see the photos up close, meet the people behind the shutters and pens, or just to hang out in person, here's the flyer and info:
(click the flyer to see a larger version on the bookstore website)
I'd love to hang out with fellow moggers and what better excuse than a music-book event! It's free of course and a great opportunity, since Steffens and Simon don't come to the Bay Area all that often. Steffens is a bit of a multi-media icon (check his imdb page!) and as you can tell from my mogging, I don't leave the house all that often myself! ;)
The fun starts at 7pm at Babylon Falling Bookstore, 1017 Bush Street SF CA .

Congrats on your own book deal.... sounds fun....
That sounds like a most appealing invitation. I won't be able to make it regrettably. Congratulations...
Way to go and do some writing and get it published and then sign it.
You signing on the east coast, mebbee?
Congrats.
Very cool, congrats Moll.
thanks! :)
how cool is that? As an east coaster I will not be there, but know that I wish I was!
I hope this will get published in the UK. Congratulations and enjoy the evening - say hi to Roger for me.
Congrats!
Jonh - can you not get it there? It was published by a Bay Area publisher (Insight Editions/Palace Press) but I thought it was available worldwide on Amazon.com. Let me know, I could always send you a copy!

Righteous, molli. I'll try to be there...
