MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:

Live Nation is courting Jay-Z for a truly stunning amount of money plus additional benefits. This looks like a "Madonna Deal" to the tune of $150 Million, but it also looks like so much more than what Madge agreed to. According to a report on Billboard.com:

As part of the roughly $150 million partnership, to be called Roc Nation, Live Nation would finance future start-up ventures by Jay-Z, which could include his own label, music publishing, and artist consulting and managing, the New York Times reported today (April 2).

Along with future touring, the 10-year deal could include certain publishing and licensing rights, the paper said. The agreement also reportedly calls for Live Nation to make advance payments to Jay-Z of $10 million for a minimum of three albums.

That's it. My kids ain't goin to college, their going to Red Bull Music Academy or the School of Hard Knocks to learn how to rap!

Alternatively, have your kids create beats for Jay-Z. Then, one day, while drinking OJ and eating bagels, they'll discover "hey, I can actually rhyme a little bit!".

So, they'll keep making beats, keep rhyming, and then one day become a superstar all their own.

Sound like anyone?

We'll have to wait and see, but I think somebody got played here..It ain't Jay-Z. The "old" record biz is filled with people who could manage to coax advances out of suckers/distro companies..So at least some things don't change. Anybody have a perspective on what Live Nation's angle is here? Their public or private reasoning behind these deals they're cutting.

Jay-Z Didn't do a good job as prez over at Def Jam. Aside from Kanye, Rihanna, and Ne-Yo doing alright durning the Carter Administration (Because they were established artists already and/or was handled by L.A. Reid), here is what else happened over at Def Jam:

-The Roots and Method Man Came out same day (What Label does that?) with no advertisements and little to none radio spins.

-Chrisette Michele was never featured in Jay-Z's "Lost Ones" and even her name credited on that song was spelled incorrectly. Also little marketing was put in.

-Freeway and Beanie Segel from Jay-Z's family Roc-a-fella gets the same lazy treatment for their albums.

-While more artist such as Redman and Joe Budden suffer from lack of marketing and support, Jay-Z came out on Kindom Come and had sponsorships with Nascar, Budwiser, and countless other partnerships for an album that was lackluster.

So seriously, Why is Live Natino giving him a $150 Million deal to spend on himself?

i'm glad y'all are asking these questions. i was wondering the same things. i'm guessing that Live Nation sees Jay-Z as having the midas touch. if every one of his projects goes gold, then it would make sense to invest in those projects in return for a cut of the gold. but i'm not sure if that's enuff to broker a deal this enormous...

he'll be 48 when he's DONE. retiring at 48 is pretty damn good. Meanwhile, Madonna was 48 when she entered her deal with Live Nation... but yeah, 48 is kinda old for a rapper. it will be funny to see what he raps about then. Geritol - hahhahahaha!
