Angelique Kidjo, Les Nubians, Vieux Farka Toure, and Sierra Leone's Refuge All Stars are a few of the African musicians featured on a new compilation album of U2 covers. That's right, Africa loves U2. The album is called In The Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2 and it's said to be inspired by Bono's philanthropic work via the ONE campaign and (RED).

Proceeds benefit the Global Fund to Fight AIDS , TB and Malaria. The tracklist and lineup are revealed in this album description from its co-producer Shawn Amos:

12 original interpretations of classic U2 hit songs and some of their more obscure material are featured on In The Name Of Love: Africa Celebrates U2. The collection kicks off with Angelique Kidjo’s powerful multilingual cover of the 1991 chart-topper, “Mysterious Ways.” Aerosmith’s Joe Perry joins Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars for an upbeat, guitar-driven take on “Seconds,” a track from U2’s third studio release, War (1983). Rising Malian star, Vieux Farka Touré offers a trancy, Sahara Desert blues-influenced rendition of “Bullet The Blue Sky,” an absolute standout performance of one of U2’s most-played live in concert tunes. Additional highlights include Les Nubians dubbed-out dancefloor ready version of “With Or Without You,” the Soweto Gospel Choir’s epic a cappella version of “Pride In The Name Of Love,” and Tony Allen’s Afrobeat translation of “Where The Streets Have No Name Paul Heck notes that, “I was amazed when we approached the artists of how quickly they chose the songs they wanted to do. Many of them grew up listening to U2, and knew the songs
so well.”

The site also has audio streams of tracks from the album. It took a little longer than most sites to load the first page (flash), but the navigation and load times were smooth after that. You could also just check out the Amazon page for In The Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2.

I never really liked U2 or either GBush.
But I like Africa, and I'm hoping Adam Yauch and Mos Def run for office in 2012!

I wear my ONE Campaign bracelet proudly and mostly (grudgingly) make those calls to Congress when they tell me to. I'm a huge U2 fan and Africa's pretty cool too. This is NEWS , thank you.

Be weary, very weary, not to delve into politics so i wont but Bono is extremly ignorant to reality. He promoted Jeffery Sachs book and basicly called George Bush Mother Terasa. Be suspicious of anything hes involved in and also any fund raising campaigns. Not to say dont contribute but understand these situations at more depth.

I've read The End of Poverty and thought it a fine book though I haven't any degrees in economics. And Sachs seems to have a fine track record consulting with the governments of other countries and helping them solve hard economic problems. And I know that Bono and Sachs aren't the only people behind the Millennium Development Goals, after all the plan was agreed to at a G8 conference several years ago, the task now is just to pressure countries, our own among them, to keep their word and live up to their committments.
And sometimes, in fact recently, it is the U.S. Congress that has been lagging bnehind President Bush in allocations for the Foreign Affairs budget, but the ONE campaign and other lobbyists have been able to get the money Bush asks for from Congress. Those are the facts as I know them. What facts are your inuendos based on?
