Lil Wayne performed in London for the first time last Sunday night. After what happened, I wouldn't be surprised if it was his last London appearance. For starters, the London hip hop scene/grime scene is brutal. Not metalocalypse brutal, but seriously brutal like shootings and violence and such. One would think that a show that costs 25 quid (roughly $50 USD ) that features Lil Wayne and allllll his handlers would be well taken care of. But, according to various reports, this just added to the chaos. One of the most informative reviews of the show comes from one of Lil Wayne's associates (some type of PR person who flew over to London to work with Lil Wayne on the PR tip) who posted on the "Moving The Crowd" blog. Here are a few excerpts from his report:

London is plagued with gun violence at the minute, and the fact that something didn't kick off in a major way is a blessing. I could see it in the way that people were acting when the fighting started that they were totally expecting some shots to ring out. People were genuinely scared.
...it all went horribly wrong, two guys sidestage started going at it, pandemonium erupts and all the groupie girls on stage started running off the stage to the artist entrance/exit area looking mad scared. These two guys were going hard and i saw a few others run in and grab one dude and start stomping his face right next to me. Wayne continued performing amongst all of this, despite the fact that all of the groupie chicks are running past him to get off the stage.
Then... a champagne glass or bottle lands on Wayne or on the stage next to him, it was hard to see exactly what it was from where i was standing...

Here's video of this part:

At first, not much is happening, but then you can totally see something wet hit Weez in the back towards the end. He got hit in the back! That's a coward's shot! The review continues:

Shit explodes, we were all told to vacate the stage and we all head to the artist exit/entrance to leave the club. But.. the promoters had locked the exits and had pulled down the rollers doors in front of all exits!!! WTF ??? We were trapped! Not a good situation, especially when you've got promoters screaming at Waynes people to get back on stage and we were all squashed up against each other in the hallway. Girls were flipping out because there had been four major brawls on stage and all of us had nowhere to go. There was no way out except for stagediving in to the audience. We are all trapped in a crowded hallway full of people screaming at each other for various reasons and the shit was really intense. Some girls were so scared that they were crying and shaking with fear. I saw Wayne coming towards me through the people and he just thumped me on the chest as a sign of acknowledgement as he walked by me. He looked kinda confused but unfazed too.

The long of the short of it is that the doors were finally opened and security hustled Weezy outta there and onto his tour bus. The rest of the crew high-tailed it too. Madness.

I wonder if this is going to hold off all hip hop shows in London.

this kind of thing has been going on for about a decade now, so i doubt it will change anything. i get the feeling that Jay-Z or 50 Cent wouldn't have performed in this situation though. Big US hip hop acts usually perform in a bigger venue, thereby eliminating the possibility of the crowd being able to cause such a ruckus on stage. It seems Lil Wayne shouldn't have been booked at this venue. But i don't live in London, so i'm not sure what this place is like other than what i see in the photos.
