Is Friday becoming synonymous with free music? I just discovered a blurb on FACT Mag that points to a pair of unreleased Burial tunes! If you've listened to the recording of Kode 9's otherworldly dj set under the stars at the SONAR festival last year (or if you were lucky enough to hear it live!) than you've heard "Speedball 2" and "Stairwell" before. Both songs are darker, more technotic, like Darquan or Hatcha. But neither made it onto the elusive musician's latest opus, Untrue. Rumour has it that these were part of an album that Burial started but scrapped, focusing instead on music that would later become Untrue. Is it true? Who can tell when dealing with a recluse who rarely interviews, performs live or otherwise reveals anything beyond the official releases. But like Peter Parker's exclusive photos of Spiderman, Kode 9 always seems to have the inside track on this dubstep super hero.

Burial - "Speedball2"

Now the big question is: will these be released at any point? 12-inch singles? C'mon!
If you want some insight into Burial and his ethereal noises, read one of his rare interviews from when he was promoting Untrue, over at FACT Mag.

I'd read that the publicity around his s/t debut messed with this head a little, and he found it difficult to decide on a direction for his next album. These cuts seem to be a couple of the byroads he traveled before getting to the new destination. It's great to hear them. Thanks.
