Cherine Anderson Welcomes Barack Obama With New Tune Ft. Michael Franti, Spearhead, Solliloquists of Sound

Posted about 3 years ago

While fans have been waiting for Cherine Anderson to release her first EP - The Introduction Dub Style, due later this month - the dancehall-soul singer has been sharing the stage with Michael Franti for an upbeat song about the president-elect. Anderson, Franti & Spearhead perform "Barack Obama" along with the help of hip hop artists Solliloquists of Sound. It's an energetic song with a reggae skank and the chorus basically chants the soon-to-be President's name. They haven't recorded the song yet, but they've played it live a few times. The best recording I could find is this fan video at the Nokia Theater in NYC:

Cherine Anderson recently told Splash that the president's peeps heard the song and invited them to perform it in Washington on January 19 and 20, 2009 - at the ceremonies that welcome our 44th President to office! Anderson told Splash:

"a couple of people from Obama's camp saw us performing and became really excited about it and made a couple calls."

I was at the Nokia concert  on 11.22 (I've got a serious crush on Michael Franti) and have to admit that I fell hard for Cherine - looking forward to hearing more of her solo stuff.  The wife of the Sollioquist lead singer (the shaved head lady) was amazing too - wish I could remember her name.
