Part music festival, part grassroots outreach and part peaceful protest, the 10th annual Power To The Peaceful festival in San Francisco this weekend was a resounding success. I haven't heard an official tally yet, but Franti announced on stage that this year had the biggest attendance to date! The event included a full day of entertainment and activities including morning yoga, a peaceful gathering with neighbors, a dj tent, Kids Zone, vendors, grassroots community outreach and of course, concerts. For me, the highlights were hearing Ziggy Marley, Michael Franti & Spearhead play. Also, Namkha Rinpoche traveled all the way from Tibet and the Dalai Lama's side to offer spiritual advice and public prayers for world peace, with focus on Tibet's plight. During Ziggy's performance, I experienced deja vu when I noticed his adorable daughta standing next to the singer - much like a young Ziggy had done with his father, Bob Marley, back in the day. Ziggy performed beloved favorites "Redemption Song" and "No Woman, No Cry" from his dad's songbook as well as his own hits such as "Dragonfly" from his 1st solo album.
Ziggy Marley at PTTP 2008:
I was lucky enough (thanks to MOG!) to be present during a press conference backstage where Michael Franti, Namkha Rinpoche, Dr. Steven Schneider and others discussed world peace, politics, governement and more. I videotaped some of the incredible answers the panelists offered and really want to share them with you. [The biggest downside of holding a press conference backstage, in a nice shady tent, is that you suffer loads of background noise from the stage and oblivious bystanders. But the messages laid out during this special gathering are so important, that it's totally worth the extra effort it takes to listen.]
Michael Franti talking about choosing sides - especially important to people in the US right now, as they consider the 2-party choices for a new leader:
I love those lessons!
Namkha Rinpoche has an equally important message to share, though it takes a bit more effort to understand. Partly because he speaks Tibetan and uses a translator to be understood (who's name I carelessly forgot to find out, sorry!), but also because the background noise is louder. Your patience with this next clip will be rewarded with wisdom:

Those vids from the press conference are totally exclusive to MOG! You won't find those anywhere else. Even youTube doesn't have footage from anyone else (yet)...
The vids are no longer available Molli, so much for Mog exclusivity! Sounds like it was a great day. I have friends that go every year & I keep meaning to go but forget about it. I've never been before either.
Press play anyway, all 3 videos are working for me. Are they not working for others as well? I don't know why the last one looks unavailable but it plays just fine. i uploaded the last 2 myself and none of it infringes on anyone/anything, so there's no reason they'd be taken down by youTube.
And you think I didn't try? I know better than to let those 'unavailable' signs stop me, unfortunately they wouldn't even play but it might have been my puter acting up. They played for me just now though. Interesting & thanks!
You need to give us all a headsup on this beforehand!
will do next year! i almost missed it myself this year and i might have been tempted to stay home and catch up on my homework if MOG hadn't dangled a press pass under my nose! i was invigorated and re-inspired by this year's festival though. i will definitely make a big deal about it beforehand next year!
