Oi yeeeah! I'm always excited about new Roots Manuva music and this new video is no exception. "Let The Spirit" is the 3rd single from Slime & Reason which came out this week. A few tunes on the album are fiery electro-dancehall produced by Toddla T. But "Let The Spirit" move you was produced by Metronomy and brings a slower more serious sound with FAT bass synths!
Roots Manuva - "Let The Spirit":
I've only listened to the full album a few times now, but I immediately fell head over heels for every tune on it. If you're even vaguely a Roots Manuva fan, grab Slime & Reason today!

Never heard of this guy, but I like him! I love all the sounds he's using. Very well done... and he can sing too!
i ADORE Roots Manuva's music. if you like this one, you should check out the vids I just posted:

Others from Slime & Reason plus an 11 minute mini-doc about the album. He's been releasing albums on the Big Dada label for 10 years now I think. If you like UK hip hop, I suggest getting a copy of the label compilation called Well Deep: Ten Years of Big Dada Records. You can listen to samples on Amazon.com:

Thanks for that! I will for sure check him and the rest of the UK hip hop scene.
Always enjoyed his more reggae tinged rapping, some of which is 'laugh out loud'
As soon as I saw this healine in 'daily picks' I knew it was YOU posting it Molli! LOVING this song, it's a stone jam. Should've known you'd already have the album. You're on Roots Manuva like I am w/Ms. Badu, haha! Thanks for the headup on this, I need to get it! Are you doing an album review of it?
it's true! as much as I love Erykah, as a role model, a priestess and an artiste... Roots Manuva has really captured my interest again this year. Partly because I'm researching Jamaica's influence on the UK scene but also just because he's spot on this year!
I, too, prefer his more reggae tinged rapping Neill. There's definitely a lot of dancehall influence on Slime & Reason, which I think is why I'm so into it. And this new single, "Let The Spirit," is so similar to Jamaican gospel-reggae. The message seemed incongruous with the rest of the album until I realized that.
I'd love to review it, but I don't know if I'll have time! I'm doing so many things at once these days! I'm stoked y'all have been digging the posts/videos. :)
