Estelle Says Everything Happens For A Reason

Posted about 1 year ago

How fast did tickets sell out for Estelle's show in SF? Seriously. I found out about the SF show 2 weeks ago, but tix were already sold out. Estelle performs at The Independent tomorrow night, but, alas... I won't be there, nor my camera. Did you score tickets in time? Who's going? (I promise not to drool on your tickets or ask to lick your hand stamp.)

Well, at least I have memories of the yumminess that is Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles. I ate there when I was in Loing Beach a few weeks ago and it was delicious. This southern eatery is where Estelle bumped into Kanye West and John Legend, 6 years before recording "American Boy" for Estelle's album. I didn't have such a revolutionary experience when I ate at Roscoe's, but I left with a greasy perma-grin from the amazing food. Estelle describes the fateful meeting of minds in an interview with the SF Chronicle, published this past Sunday:

It was one of these situations where it couldn't happen any other way. You don't walk up to Kanye West or a big star in a situation like that and have them in the studio six years later. Again, I think it happened for a reason. It made a lot of people happy. If I hadn't met him when I met him, this wouldn't have happened. So everything happens for a reason.

"American Boy" ft. Kanye:

Estelle says her label backs her up 100%: "They say, 'You see the truth, so speak it.' They believe in me. They respect my opinion." Learn more about Estelle's opinions in this great interview by Aidin Vaziri:
