Santana & Doors Settle Lawsuit With Wolfgang's Vault Owner
-
Artist:
Fans of Wolfgang's Vault and the music it provides probably know that it's been under fire from those same bands. The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Doors and Carlos Santana have all filed lawsuits against the website's owner William Sagan for copyright infringement or otherwise infringing on their creative works. While the Dead and Zep remain in negotiations, Santana and the Doors tentatively reached an agreement in court last week. Unfortunately, the report in the L.A. Times (where I learned of it) doesn't say exactly what the final settlement entails. But, I'd be willing to bet that either Sagan agreed to remove the content that features Santana or Doors music or pay fees for every download. Of course, that could get too expensive and result in the material being removed as well. Either way, you might want to jump over there and make sure you get anything you want to keep.

OY! Legal stuff really bites. I am glad they got it worked out.. sorta.
Cool site!
Hey, The Vault is feelin' spunky enough to send me many-times-per-week updates on the most recent additions to their archives. They ain't got their tails betwixt their legs. These guys will be fine.
I even make Wednesday my Wolfgang's Vault night for concerts, I hope the artists resolve their differences, that site is really great for fixed income people like myself who won't be able to access the material if purchase is required.
oh i have no doubt the site will be just fine. this is just a heads up that they've reached a settlement with 2 bands and are still in negotiations with the others. and to be fair, it's not the bands themselves but the record labels (of course).
Downloads? I thought WV only allowed you to stream the music. Did the article say downloads? Because there's a big difference between streaming and downloading.
Ditto what contra wrote...I've been a subscriber to their newsletter for probably 2 years, and I always thought you could only stream the music! Didn't realize we could download (and burn!) the entire concerts...will have to check it out right now! :-)
interesting. a lot of times, legal speak says download even when it means streaming audio. the reason being that your computer "downloads" streams, that's how it avoids buffering. often the download goes into a temp internet files cache and sometimes you can keep that temp file... but i don't know if that's legal, so i can't actually recommend trying it.
