I love any day that includes a new video from Estelle. But a day with a new video from Estelle and Cee-Lo is a GREAT day indeed! And that's what today is - a great day, featuring the new vid for "Pretty Please" off Estelle's fabulous album, Shine.
(If any ads pop up at the beginning, I apologize. I got the vid from Estelle's own Tube channel, but you know how these things are nowadays...)
It's tunes like this one that prompted my friends to ask why Estelle "sounds so Motown" when I was blasting Shine on the daily. I LOVE the album and continue to play it regularly. I grew up on music like "Pretty Please." So, for me, it's a trip back to childhood simplicity, good times and FAM-I-LY...
My album review of Shine on MOG
What do you think of Estelle and her music? Too retro? Just right? Lovin' it/hatin' it?

always loved this tune big time. thanks for the reminder. video didn't keep my attention but the song kept playing LOUD............
Anything with Cee-Lo has got to be gold and this certainly is, but I've never heard of Estelle. So thank you for introducing me to a new artist. Hopefully one day I can return the favor!
no problem carmensandiego! it's my pleasure to introduce you to Estelle, she's one of my fave singers (along with Erykah Badu). Definitely check out my album review (link above), it has a few more videos from the album. Also, click on Estelle's name at the top of this post. It will take you to a MOG page with all the posts about her music. I think I've posted every video of hers since the album was released - maybe 4 videos by now...
Enjoy!
I hadn't heard of her either until she started criticizing all the other singers in this new crop of nu-soul singers. What attitude! I actually prefer Duffy & saw her live at Coachella, she was amazing & very sweet(so tiny too). Estelle has a good voice but I like the moodier style of Duffy myself(plus she seems to be very down to earth & not full of herself). Duffy's style seems to be a bit of a more unusual twist on the motown sound which fits the bill for me, unlike any of the others.
There is an article w/Duffy in the latest Spin Magazine where she was asked what she thought of Estelle's rude comment. Duffy was extremely gracious about it, saying she felt soul music knew no skin color, if you have soul, then you have it(I'm paraphrasing here but it was something to that effect).
You're right about one thing. I hung with Duffy during SXSW and she's a sweetheart.
And gorgeous might I add?! Cool to hear she's a sweetheart in real life too Robin.
I have to represent for London town- Estelle has some great tunes on her album. As for the Duffy comment, well that's just a girl creating headlines, isn't it? Personally, Duffy's music sounds too much like Dusty Sprinfield's music, which only reinforces the similarity of their voices. I like it to at least sound like it was made in this century.
Is this the "American Boy" singer? Honestly, just off of that song, I never figured she'd have a career...or real singing ability.
But, I've been wrong before. I like the sound.
yep, "American Boy" is on this same album, Shine. I actually like Duffy too, but I've only heard 2 songs by her thus far. I LOVE Estelle based on all her work, from hip hop to grime to soul. I just never tire of her creations.
Anyone who wants to hear more tunes, definitely click the Estelle tag at the top and read the other posts. And look up her video for "1980" somewhere like youTube.
i'm with you on playing this album everyday all day long and pretty please is my favorite track. me and some people at work were trying to figure out who was singing on this track with her, i thought it was al green and one my friends thought it was the guy from gnarls barkley.
i recommend this album to any music lover out there, it's a must for any collection
thank you john legend for this great artist
