Lee Scratch Perry returns to Kingston, Jamaica to film his new video for "Pum Pum" - the lead single off his upcoming new album. Old age tends to be kind to the INSANE, so L.S.P. stopped aging about 25-30 years ago. Back then, he still dubbed all day long in his Kingston-based Black Ark studio; creating new riddims and new genres out of reel to reel master tape recordings. Now the mad mad mad mad dub scientist is somewhere in his 70's, married to a sexy Swiss Miss who doesn't seem to mind his wandering eye and roaming hands! Nonetheless, Scratch can still rock a racy video filled with sexy dancehall kittens without coming across like a dirty old man. Check out all the "Pum Pum" in the room:
I posted this song at the beginning of July, along with the tracklist for Repentance. I only had audio at that time, so this is the premiere release of the video for "Pum Pum." Repentance will be out August 19th and features an unusual cast of all-star guests. Scope the previous post for all the album deets.
Currently, Lee Scratch Perry is on tour in the US, soon to hit San Francisco (he plays SF on Thursday and Friday August 28-29). So if any mog headz in the Bay Area want to get Dub Crazy this month, let's have a DUB Mog Meet at one of the SF shows.

ok, so i already mentioned that pum pum is similar to punanny...
- judging from this video and Perry's extensive touring the last few years, i'd also say that pum pum is an effective anti-aging remedy; perhaps even age-reversing!
but, i don't want to give too much away before you get a chance to take a "stab" at it.
That track just makes my head ache, I'm sorry - not my cup of tea at all, and it just makes me sad to see what a ghastly parody of himself Scratch has become.
Going back to my preferred era of JA music, this is Niney the Observer with "International Pum"
Mollifire!!!! you're bad!

I have been trying to get the video to show for me, and it doesnt seem to be coming up on the page........oh and here are some more for you troy
Where the hell are you finding the tour dates? Trying to see if he'll be passing through here and any tour schedule he may have doesn't seem to exist online anywhere.
Well Hooha i'll be damned if i'm gonna be sucked into the Abyss and be so uncouth as to write such derogatory comments in this monkeybox.
This New new way of people just saying whatever they want is like having a pink taco on fine china whilst wearing a mumu.
However on your insistance Miss Mollifire i will put this down as you have just led me to the ultimate one of all....
i read this somewhere....and i think it's a keeper.
my best friend.
I like Baudo's bawdy song better. I know I liked this track alright when you posted it a few months back, but upon further listen it does not really even sound like he produced it. You know? Like he is the star getting the current hot producer treatment. Seems wrong seeing as he was the originator.
Hey, get the old fart some Viagra & ghanja. "Jesus christ!"
Pum-pum comes. Pum-pum goes. It's alright.
Sorry. I love it!
Troy - i'm glad somebody was able to get into the spirit! That's an extensive list!
I agree that this song doesn't sound as good as classic Lee Perry hits, but sheesh, he's 70-something!!! If he doesn't want to make a high-energy jump-up tune, I can certainly understand. I'll look further into the music's origins, it's possible that Pum Pum was produced by one of the current dancehall stars. If so, they've gone to great lengths to make it original. Out of everything playing in the dancehall this year, this one stands on it's own and sounds very original. But for Perry, it's a bit stripped-down, so I can see why you might think he didn't make the music. So, I'll look into that. Don Corleone perhaps?
As for tour dates, you're right, nothing is available anymore. I found the SF dates in the local paper and I've seen dates for January 2009 in London, but I can't find any others now. Sorry about that. I'll keep a look out though and post if I find anything.
