Carla Bruni: "Comme Si de Rien N'Etait" Goes Global - Listen To "L'Amoureuse" Here

Posted about 1 year ago

The lovely Italian-born, French-by-marriage siren-songstress, Carla Bruni, released her new solo album in France earlier this month, but now Comme Si de Rien N'Etait is available everywhere digitally (via Downtown Records) and will be available on CD August 5th. According to Giant Step, it's delightfully sombre. They also report:

Produced by Dominique Blanc-Francard, the fourteen track LP contains - aside from the original work by Bruni - a poem by French author Michel Houellebecq, set to music by Bruni, and two previously performed pieces: "You Belong To Me," a title popularized by Bob Dylan and featured in the original film score of Natural Born Killers, and Il Vecchio e Il Bambino, written by Italian anarchist Francesco Guccini.

But perhaps you've already heard of this album, from the scathing reviews it received even before its release date in Europe. Sturgell mogged about it earlier this month with some truly brutal quotes from various "respectable" publications. Jump over to that post if you're curious.

I beg to differ. I find her voice and the breezy acoustics of her music absolutely enchanting, or en-chante. For example, "L'Amoureuse" off Comme Si de Rien N'Etait:

I'd add Bruni to the "models-who-CAN-sing" category. What do you think? Are the critics basing their opinions on her talent or France's politics? How do YOU feel about her music? Have you listened to her new album already?

dude i think it's quite convenient that she's officially first lady to release a french language track. i think one of the lines was "i could eat the sky?" if I heard it right? hard because she's so god damn breathy. like she recorded in between sex or something. ekk.

Love this woman, and if you have not done so yet pick up her first release Quelqu'un M'a Dit. That one in particular is my favorite by her

indie - that breathiness is not her own doing, it's a filter that someone ran her vocals through.  very unpopular among many musicians, like the autotuner...
